North Carolina, I wanted to create fine art horse photography and so I was tracking this herd for what seemed like forever. Meanwhile, nothing was happening. I like to shoot movement and action with wildlife, but these guys were standing around, doing nothing. One horse put his head down and also started to walk towards me. The way the light hit his hair reminded me of a surfer as a result. This isn’t typically my style, but I was compelled to take it. When I looked at it on the computer, my mind opened to taking portrait-style photographs as opposed to shooting motion all the time. This was one of my first in my career in equine photography.

FAQ ABOUT MY FINE ART HORSE PHOTOGRAPHY
Q: How to take beautiful black and white horse photography?
A: All animals get a very good sense of our energy, so if we are not comfortable or are scared around them, they will pick up on this and react the same way. Treat the horse as you would a close friend – be friendly, make it comfortable around your camera equipment before you start to take photographs.
